Top Halloween Attractions in VA

A variety of Halloween activities are available for you to enjoy throughout the Chesapeake area. Some of the most popular ways you can enjoy the season include fall festivals, hay rides, haunted houses, and Halloween parties. Visiting us here at Cavalier Ford Greenbrier in Chesapeake or browsing online inventory of Fords might help families find the new vehicle they need to get around.

One of the most common ways to celebrate Halloween is by going to a haunted house. Since there are themes related to ghosts and other spooky creatures, the opportunity for your family to enjoy a scary event at a converted facility has great appeal. The Chesapeake area has several unique resources that are well-suited for conversion to haunted houses.

Haunted Houses

A good example of this is available at Nauticus in Norfolk at One Waterside Drive. This is the fifth year in a row that they will have a themed haunted house on the Battleship Wisconsin. Adults interested in exploring a retired battleship should check it out, but it is not recommended for children. It is open on Thursday through Saturday, October 16th to 18th and 23rd to 25th. Tours start at 6:30 PM and the cost is $15 for non-members, but Nauticus members can get in for $10.

The Ghost Train at Northwest River Park in Chesapeake operates on the same days, but they open at 7 PM and close at 10 PM. There is no train here; instead, they use hay carts with benches to take your family through the Northwest River Park, which has been transformed into haunted woods. Tickets are $9 on Thursdays and $10 for Friday and Saturdays rides. This is a family friendly event, but some young kids might not be ready for the scary surprises in the dark.

Trick or Treat

Hampton is hosting its Annual Halloween Bash at the Virginia Air and Space Museum at 600 Settlers Landing Road on October 25th. The event starts at 4 PM and includes costume contests for all age groups. Afterwards, downtown businesses will be offering safe trick or treating until 7 PM. Tickets cost $7 on the day of the event, but you can save $2 by purchasing them early.

Downtown Portsmouth traditionally holds its Annual Olde Town Trick or Treat event on the last Saturday before Halloween. Kids up to 12 years old can trick or treat safely among the businesses in the historic area with oversight by the Portsmouth Police and Auxiliary Fire Department. They buy, and oversee, 4000 pounds of candy with donations from local merchants. Business welcome families from 6 PM until 8 PM while various street performers are on hand.

The Town Center of Virginia Beach is the site of the Halloween Town and Treat festival, which is also on the 25th. This free event starts earlier than most at 12 PM and runs until 4 PM. Various activities, like pumpkin decorating and face painting, will be fun for your family. At 1:30 PM, they have a special costume show just for pets.

Month Long Festivals

Top Halloween Attractions in VAThe Hunt Club Farm in Virginia Beach offers a variety of events and activities for families. It is open from 7 to 11 PM on Friday and Saturday the 10th and 11th, and daily from Wednesday to Sunday, starting on the 15th, until November 1st. These include a haunted hayride and a corn field full of zombies.

We hope you enjoy the Halloween season and festivities as much as we enjoy telling you about them!
