That’s why we can’t wait for the return of Virginia Beach’s Light Up the Town holiday spectacular. This year’s event is expected to ring in the season with bright lights, festive music, and much more.

2015 Light Up the Town Event Details

Virginia Beach’s Light Up the Town is a holiday parade that will take place on Saturday, November 21 from 5 to 8 pm, traveling from Main Street to the Town Center and Pembroke Mall. This free event will feature a breathtaking showcase of floats as well as a laser light show that presents the sights, sounds, and colors of the season to get you into the holiday spirit.

A Spectacular Display of Festive Light

The parade will start a 5 pm and travel along Main Street. During this procession, you’ll be able to enjoy a family-friendly presentation of live music, costumed characters, and a holiday train display to kick the season off right. Santa will also take a break from checking his naughty and nice list to make an appearance in the parade as a horse-drawn carriage pulls him and Mrs. Claus through the town.

Light Up the Town attracts residents throughout Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake, so if you want to get a good seats for all of the holiday cheer, be sure to get to the parade route on Main Street early to claim your viewing spot.

The procession of holiday delights will end at the Fountain Plaza, where the town will come together for the countdown to the annual lighting the Town Center and the 30-foot Christmas tree. As you wait for the holiday lights to illuminate the town, you can walk around Fountain Plaza and listen to carolers and holiday jazz music. On top of that, the Town Center’s stores will be open for business and offer some of the season’s biggest deals for all of your holiday shopping needs.

Once the tree and Town Center have been illuminated in holiday lights, a festive laser light show will commence and brighten the night sky with the colors, sounds, and sights of the season. Finally, Light Up the Night will conclude at the Pembroke Mall, where your kids can enjoy Storytime with Santa.

New Year’s Eve is the perfect excuse to put on a fancy dress or break out your tux and don your dancing shoes as you celebrate the end of one year and the start of a new one. And if you’re looking for an event to enjoy while you celebrate the arrival of a new year, here are some options in the Virginia Beach and Norfolk areas for you to consider.

New Year’s Eve Sneaker Ball

Real Fresh Radio will present its third annual New Year’s Eve Sneaker Ball at the FM Restaurant in Norfolk, with the doors set to open at 9:30 pm. You must come in semi-formal dress topped off with your best pair sneakers—hence the name of the event. Complimentary party favors will be provided for the revelry, and there will be a champagne toast at midnight. DJ Bee will serve up a great playlist to keep the party going. Tickets for the sneaker ball range from $10 to $15.

New Year’s Eve Gala Ball

On New Year’s Eve, stop by the Founders Inn and Spa in Virginia Beach for an elegant dance and buffet to celebrate the end of 2014 and the start of 2015. For this event, which will be held from 8 pm to 2 am, you can enjoy an open bar and a traditional champagne toast at midnight. In addition, the 10-Spot Band will play a combination of Motown, big band, classic party, and modern hits for everyone to enjoy.

The Founders Inn and Spa is offering overnight accommodations in a standard guestroom for two adults and a New Year’s Day champagne brunch. Reservations are required, and tickets cost $350 per couple for an inclusive package. Tickets for only the gala ball cost $150.


Gatsby II New Year’s Eve Ball 2015

As New Year’s Eve inches closer, it’s time to start thinking about what party and celebration you’d like to attend to ring in the new year. In addition, there will be complimentary party favors for all those who attend, a champagne toast at midnight, and a balloon drop. Holiday Tree Light Events Around Norfolk, VA

Holiday Events NorfolkGhent Holiday Tree Lighting and Caroling

On December 5 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, Ghent’s Holiday Open House Weekend will start with the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Blair Middle School. Here, you and your family will be able enjoy great festive music and caroling by school groups from Blair Middle School, St. Patrick’s Catholic School, Norfolk Collegiate, and The Williams School. There will also be hot chocolate and cookies for those looking to warm up. Best of all, Santa Claus will make an appearance when he helps to light the tree. New unwrapped toys for the ForKids organization will be accepted as part of the event.

Dickens’ Christmas Towne

Dickens’ Christmas Towne will be located at the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center from November 21 to December 14 and December 17 to December 28. Families who attend will have a chance to celebrate the holidays as they did in Victorian London. Carolers will provide festive music, and actors will dress in period costumes. There will also be tea parties, merchants, and holiday activities that everyone in the family can enjoy.

In addition, there will be a Victorian Father Christmas plus a train display and an outdoor train ride for children to enjoy.

As far as the decorations, there will be wreaths on every door, candles in every window, and boats on the nearby waterfront decorated with lights and wreaths.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

Christmas Events Norfolk

Virginia’s family theatre company, The Hurrah Players, will present Hurrah for the Holidays at 7 pm on December 13 at the TCC Roper Performing Arts Center. This multi-cultural celebration will offer festive holiday music, from the classics to modern hits. There will also be precision kick-line dancers, a 6-foot dancing snowman, and additional holiday performances and surprises.

Additionally, there will be a performance of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. It tells a heartwarming story that focuses on an unlikely group of children who learn the true meaning of Christmas and the holidays. Plus, this will be the only night that the Happy Hanukkah, My Friend program will be presented to celebrate the Festival of Lights.

Tacky Sweater 5K

You can celebrate the holidays a bit differently this year by participating in the Tacky Sweater 5K on December 13 at Ocean View Beach Park. In addition to the 5K race, there will be a 5K walk and a tacky sweater competition. All of the proceeds from the race will benefit the Edmarc Hospice for Children, which provides hospice services for children and their families in the Hampton Roads area. Pre-registration for the race and walk are required.
