There are plenty of holiday events scheduled around the Virginia Beach and Norfolk areas this year, and we’re sure families are filling up their calendars with them—though it may be hard to choose! So Cavalier Ford Greenbrier is helping you select the perfect events this holiday season with a sampling of what the Norfolk area is offering residents and visitors.
Ghent Holiday Tree Lighting and Caroling
On December 5 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, Ghent’s Holiday Open House Weekend will start with the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Blair Middle School. Here, you and your family will be able enjoy great festive music and caroling by school groups from Blair Middle School, St. Patrick’s Catholic School, Norfolk Collegiate, and The Williams School. There will also be hot chocolate and cookies for those looking to warm up. Best of all, Santa Claus will make an appearance when he helps to light the tree. New unwrapped toys for the ForKids organization will be accepted as part of the event.
Dickens’ Christmas Towne
Dickens’ Christmas Towne will be located at the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center from November 21 to December 14 and December 17 to December 28. Families who attend will have a chance to celebrate the holidays as they did in Victorian London. Carolers will provide festive music, and actors will dress in period costumes. There will also be tea parties, merchants, and holiday activities that everyone in the family can enjoy.
In addition, there will be a Victorian Father Christmas plus a train display and an outdoor train ride for children to enjoy.
As far as the decorations, there will be wreaths on every door, candles in every window, and boats on the nearby waterfront decorated with lights and wreaths.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
Virginia’s family theatre company, The Hurrah Players, will present Hurrah for the Holidays at 7 pm on December 13 at the TCC Roper Performing Arts Center. This multi-cultural celebration will offer festive holiday music, from the classics to modern hits. There will also be precision kick-line dancers, a 6-foot dancing snowman, and additional holiday performances and surprises.
Additionally, there will be a performance of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. It tells a heartwarming story that focuses on an unlikely group of children who learn the true meaning of Christmas and the holidays. Plus, this will be the only night that the Happy Hanukkah, My Friend program will be presented to celebrate the Festival of Lights.
Tacky Sweater 5K
You can celebrate the holidays a bit differently this year by participating in the Tacky Sweater 5K on December 13 at Ocean View Beach Park. In addition to the 5K race, there will be a 5K walk and a tacky sweater competition. All of the proceeds from the race will benefit the Edmarc Hospice for Children, which provides hospice services for children and their families in the Hampton Roads area. Pre-registration for the race and walk are required.
With the holidays fast approaching for the residents of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, be sure to check out the events listed above and add one or all of them to your plans this year.
