While there’s always the beautiful beaches to enjoy any day of the week, September is an especially great time of year for families and individuals alike to take in many of the planned events in the Virginia Beach area. With gorgeous ocean views and a relaxing city life, Virginia Beach is the perfect destination for those trying to get away in the early fall months. Blues at the Beach

Welcoming children and adults free of charge, Blues on the Beach is a blues festival in Virginia Beach running from September 5-6. Featuring famous blues musicians from across the country, Blues on the Beach showcases several artists over a two day concert in an outdoor venue. Artists such as Terry Garland, James Herman, and Billy Boy Arnold will perform and even offer free workshops to audiences.

18th Annual Neptune’s Fall Wine Festival

Located in Neptune’s Park, Virginia Beach, from September 6-7, 12-5pm, the older ones in the crowd can leave the kids at home to enjoy a relaxing evening out enjoying the many remarkable wines of Virginia. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $25 on Saturday and $30 on Sunday, and can also be purchased as a group for up to eight guests. Unwind with live music, great food, and of course the best wine in Virginia.

Mediterranean Weekend

For those looking for a taste of Italian and Greek cultures, the Mediterranean Weekend, running from September 12-14, is a perfect step into the Mediterranean world. Children and parents alike are welcome to enjoy the best Italian and Greek food, experience music and cultural dance, and participate in fun activities such as grape stomping. Festival goers will have the opportunity to purchase different cultural souvenirs, allowing them to bring the Mediterranean home.

Sandman Triathlon

Challenging even the toughest athletes to an intense test of the mind and body, the Sandman Triathlon boasts an exacting 750 meter ocean swim, a 5k run, and a 14-mile bike ride. Now featuring a new route allowing for more participants, the event is expecting to draw plenty of competitors and spectators alike. On September 21st, competitors can come out to test their skills at 7:00am, and relax and enjoy the wonderful Virginia beaches at the post-race celebration.

International Sand-sculpting Championship

One of the most distinctive events in the entire region, the International Sandsculpting Championship, lasting an entire ten days (September 26-October 5), is guaranteed to be an incredibly interesting visit for anyone. Featuring artists and sculptors from around the globe, the creations are exhibited for viewing. Housed in a stunning venue and offering a cash prize for the best sculpture, the International Sandsculpting Championship is one of the most exciting events of the year.
